Antur
Waunfawr's Recycling Department was established in 1994 at
Dinas, Llanwnda, and employed 4 members of staff. The
Department expanded rapidly after winning a community
recycling contract in 1996 and moved to the West End Depot
in Bangor. In March 2007 following the establishment of the
new Strategic Recycling Scheme partnership known as
‘Caergylchu’ the Department relocated again, this time to
the Cibyn Industrial Estate in Caernarfon. |
Caergylchu is a waste minimisation, refuse and recycling
scheme covering nearly 50% of the population of Gwynedd,
primarily in the Arfon area, and involves Gwynedd Council
working in partnership with Cwmni Gwastraff Mon ac Arfon (CGMA)
and Antur Waunfawr Recycling (AWA).

Why recycle?
It’s an
alarming statistic that UK businesses alone are estimated to have
produced over 80 million tonnes of waste in 2006. According to the
Environment Agency, less than 40% of this waste is recycled and over
35 million tonnes will go straight to landfill. |
Your
profitability
Waste disposal is now costing UK industry up to 5% of annual
turnover; implementing a comprehensive recycling programme could
save your company up to £1000 per employee.
Your legal obligation “Producer Responsibility” is a key
principle in today’s business environment and many businesses are
now legally obliged to achieve recycling targets set by legislation
such as the Packaging Waste Regulations 2005 and the
1998 Data Protection Act.
Corporate Social Responsibility With more and more consumers
demanding sustainable sourced goods and examining the ecological
credentials of businesses, it pays to recycle.
