Antur Waunfawr’s roots are in Bryn Pistyll – that is where
the seed of the community enterprise was planted over 20
years ago.
Bryn Pistyll is
Social
and Therapeutic Horticulture site which is based
in one of the most beautiful parts of the Gwyrfai
valley, in Waunfawr village which lies below the slopes of
Cefn Du, Moel Eilian, Mynydd Mawr and Allt Coed Mawr.
The historic surroundings of Bryn Pistyll were chosen as the
place to start work and one of the Antur's first projects
was to transform seven acres of boggy ground into a nature
park and attractive gardens. As well as providing work
opportunities for adults with learning disabilities, today
it is a wonderful place for local people and visitors to
come for a leisurely stroll and take part in Antur
Waunfawr’s
wide range of activities.
By providing opportunity for learning
disabled individuals to participate in cultivating a variety
of plants and vegetables this project utilises horticultural
practices as a means of improving skills, health and quality
of life of individual participants.
